Lesson 1

A crowd around the egg

In the ovaries, each egg cell sits inside a tiny bubble of cells called a follicle.

Granulosa cells are the small, round cells that make up that bubble. At first there is only one thin layer. As the egg grows, they multiply into many layers.

Later, a pocket of fluid forms between them, and the follicle gets bigger and bigger.

Wow!

Granulosa cells reach out tiny arms that touch the egg cell, so they can pass it what it needs!
