Lesson 1
The peacekeepers
Regulatory T cells are a kind of T cell. People often call them Tregs (say "TEE-regs").
They look a lot like other T cells: small and round, with a big nucleus. They travel in your blood and visit your lymph nodes and other body parts.
Wow!In 2025, three scientists won a Nobel Prize for discovering how these peacekeeper cells protect the body.
Lesson 2
Saying "calm down"
- Sometimes defender cells get confused and start to attack your own healthy cells. Tregs tell them to stop.
- When a germ is gone, Tregs help the fight wind down, so the swelling can go away.
Without Tregs, the immune system could hurt the body it is supposed to protect.
