The cell with pink grains
Eosinophils are a kind of white blood cell. Only a few out of every hundred white blood cells are eosinophils.
Their nucleus usually has two lobes. The rest of the cell is packed with grains that turn bright orange-pink when scientists add a dye.
Many eosinophils leave the blood and live in the lining of your gut.
Eosinophils got their name from a pink dye called eosin. The dye's name comes from an old Greek word for the dawn.
