Rare and full of dark grains
Basophils are a kind of white blood cell. They are the rarest kind. Fewer than 1 in every 100 white blood cells is a basophil.
They are packed with big, dark blue-purple grains. Under a microscope, the grains are so thick that they can hide the nucleus.
Basophils are so rare that a scientist might look at a hundred white blood cells and not find a single one!
