Under the skull
Your brain has three wrappings called the meninges. The dura mater is the outer one. It lies right under your skull.
It is the thickest and toughest of the three. Long, thin builder cells called fibroblasts live inside it.
Right under your skull is a tough, leathery wrapping called the dura. Builder cells called fibroblasts make the strong fibers that hold it together.

Dural fibroblasts make collagen, a strong, rope-like protein. Lots of collagen makes the dura tough, like leather.
Press Toughen up on the 3D model to see the builder cells light up inside the dura.
Your brain itself has no pain sensors. The coverings around it, like the dura, do have nerves that can sense pain.
