Corneal Epithelial Cells (Eye Window Skin)

The front of your eye is a clear window called the cornea. A thin, see-through layer of cells covers it, like a skin you can see through.

Lesson 1

A clear skin on your eye

Look at someone's eye from the side. The clear dome over the colored part is the cornea, your eye's front window.

Its outside is covered by a few thin layers of clear cells. New cells grow at the bottom. Older cells move up, get flatter, and are rubbed off by blinking. Then new cells take their place.

The cornea is packed with tiny nerve endings, which makes it one of the most sensitive spots on your body.
