Lesson 1
Frilly fluid factories
Deep inside your brain are a few connected spaces filled with fluid. In them is a frilly, bumpy tissue called the choroid plexus. It looks a bit like a tiny cauliflower.
Each bump has blood vessels in the middle and a single layer of cube-shaped cells on the outside. Their tops are covered with tiny fingers that give them lots of surface.
Lesson 2
Making the brain's cushion
These cells take water and other things from the blood and make cerebrospinal fluid. It flows around your brain and spinal cord.
- It cushions your brain from bumps.
- It helps carry away waste.
- The cells are joined tightly, so they also act as a gate that controls what gets in.
Try thisPress Make brain fluid on the 3D model to watch fluid flow out of the cells.
Wow!Your body keeps making new brain fluid all day. The old fluid gets swapped out several times a day!
