Lesson 1

Waiting on the edge

Satellite cells are small, flat cells that sit on the outside of your long muscle fibers. They are tucked under a thin covering that wraps each fiber.

They got their name because they sit at the edge of the fiber, a bit like a satellite next to a planet.

Most of the time they rest quietly. They are stem cells, which means they can make new muscle cells when needed.
