Standing tall
Columnar cells are taller than they are wide. They stand side by side like a row of columns.
Their nucleus usually sits near the bottom of the cell.
They line your stomach and your intestines, the long tubes your food travels through.
In your small intestine, the top of each tall cell is covered in tiny finger-like bumps called microvilli. They make a fuzzy edge that gives the cell lots more surface for soaking up food.
